Workshop Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival & Transfer to Täsch/Zermatt
Upon arrival at Zurich Airport, we’ll gather and we'll take scenic drive to Täsch—the gateway to the enchanting, car-free village of Zermatt. Settle into your accommodation and join us for an introductory evening photography session, capturing your first glimpses of the Matterhorn and the surrounding alpine beauty.
Day 2 – Zermatt & the Iconic Matterhorn
Dive into the heart of Zermatt as we explore its stunning surroundings. Today’s focus is on capturing the dramatic light and majestic presence of the Matterhorn during a sunset session that sets the stage for your photographic journey.
Day 3 – Exploring Zermatt’s Wonders
Experience the varied beauty of the Zermatt area with visits to:
-
Gornergrat & Riffelsee: Capture sweeping mountain vistas and the striking reflections of the Matterhorn in tranquil waters.
-
Sunegga & Blauherd: Embark on an early morning excursion to Stellisee, where the soft dawn light creates ideal conditions for creative imagery.
Evenings are free for personal exploration, enhanced by a special group dinner to share insights and experiences. -
Day 4 – Transition to the Engadin Region
Today, we journey from Zermatt into the captivating Engadin region. Upon arrival in St. Moritz, immerse yourself in the vibrant seasonal colors and dynamic landscapes of the Engadin.
Day 5 – Engadin Expedition: Alpine Passes, Glaciers & Lakes
Delve into the photographic treasures of the Engadin region:
-
Albula Pass & Lai da Palpuogna: Ascend to Albula Pass at 2,315 meters (7,595 feet), where its almost Scandinavian landscapes and hiking trails lead to high-altitude lakes. Capture the crystal-clear, turquoise waters of Lai da Palpuogna against a dramatic mountain backdrop—ideal for sunrise or sunset sessions.
-
Morteratsch Glacier Valley & Cascada da Bernina: Venture into the Morteratsch Glacier Valley, home to one of the largest glaciers in the Eastern Alps. Hike to elevated viewpoints to frame the glacier, its meltwater river accented by massive boulders, and clusters of ancient larch trees. Just nearby, photograph the dynamic wild river of Cascada da Bernina, where cascading waterfalls and rugged mountains offer compelling natural compositions.
Day 6 – Engadin Wilderness & Alpine Adventures
Venture further into the Engadin’s untouched beauty:
-
Val Roseg: Wander into this serene valley near Pontresina, where ancient larch and arven forests—adorned with delicate mosses and lichens—create a textured natural canvas. Stay alert for local wildlife, including birds, deer, squirrels, marmots, and even the occasional ibex. For the more adventurous, a 4–5-hour hike up to a glacier promises expansive panoramic vistas.
-
Diavolezza & Munt Pers: Enjoy a scenic cable car ride to Diavolezza (aptly nicknamed “she-devil” for its dramatic allure) to capture panoramic views of surrounding mountains and glaciers. Then, turn your lens toward Munt Pers—the highest peak in the area—for unmatched perspectives over the Engadin Valley.
-
St. Moritz & Surrounding Lakes: Experience the magic of Engadin light by capturing a sunrise at Lej da Staz, where early morning fog creates a mystical alpenglow over the mountain tops. Later, photograph the shifting moods at Lai da Sils or Silvaplana Lake during sunset, when vibrant colors and dramatic fog or cloud formations enhance your compositions.
Day 7 – Return to the Departure Area & Final Creative Review
After a week immersed in Switzerland’s alpine splendor, we begin our journey back. Today, we transfer to a conveniently located hotel near Zurich Airport. In the evening, join a final creative review session and group dinner to reflect on your photographic journey, share your favorite moments, and refine your portfolio.
Day 8 – Departure from Zurich Airport
After breakfast, we’ll arrange a transfer to Zurich Airport, ensuring you have ample time to catch your flight home—leaving with a portfolio enriched by unforgettable images and cherished memories from this immersive workshop.

YOUR WORKSHOP LEADERS

Eugene Theron
Eugene's imagination is vivid. He is constantly dreaming up ideas; some of them truly bizarre. Representing the visions that circulate his mind has never been easy task. Though Eugene always found that I was limited in my creative expression, he excel technically.
The camera is the perfect tool to translate his visions into a physical manifestation and express his creativity, allowing the viewer to step into his mind and see what he felt.
Landscapes are there to get lost in, seek solitude in, ignite the imagination and offer a sense of mystery. This is the feeling Eugene gets every time he step into one, especially a new one. The imagination factory in overdrive. He is inherently drawn to the vastness (the more remote and adventurous the better) they offer but also the more intimate natural beauty that is sometimes less obvious – telling the whole story of a location.
Eugene enjoys creating images that allow the viewer to formulate their own connection through my experiences.

Matthias Conrad
Matthias’s passion for the Swiss Alps ignited over a decade ago when he first ventured into the heart of Switzerland. Instantly captivated by the diverse and dramatic landscapes, he discovered that each towering, snow-capped peak had its own distinct personality—some fierce and imposing, others gentle and serene.
Early on, witnessing the stark impact of climate change on receding glaciers was both a shock and a call to action. Determined to document these ancient wonders before they vanished, Matthias embraced the art of photography with a unique twist: his love for black and white imagery. By stripping away color, his photographs focus on the timeless contrasts, textures, and emotions of the Alpine environment—capturing not just a landscape, but the very soul of the mountains.
His explorations have taken him far and wide—from the enchanting meandering rivers and storybook villages of the Engadin Valley to the dramatic glacier valleys in Wallis, Berner Oberland, and Uri. In these remote regions, Matthias has witnessed the raw power of nature up close: ancient glaciers sparkle under the sunlight one moment, then vanish into a tapestry of shadow and light the next, reminding us all of the fragile beauty of our planet.
Now, with over ten years of dedicated exploration and creative mastery in the high mountains of Switzerland, Matthias curates immersive workshops that transform photography into a journey of discovery. His deep, personal connection to the landscape and his signature black and white style invite participants to see the Alps in a fresh, evocative light—where every frame tells a story and every image is a work of art.
