The B-Sides

Since 2016 I have been working on my "Botanical Studies" project with a distinctive and cohesive minimalistic high-key monochrome look that shows botanical objects solely with a bright background. From time to time some of my "models" are a little bit difficult and work simply better with a dark background. I call them "The B-Sides" and created a collection of FineArt Prints.

The idea for my project grew over 10 years ago inspired by the nature drawings of Ernst Haeckel. For more than 8 years I have photographed botanical objects in this minimalistic black-and-white style. Inspired by countless sketches by Ernst Haeckel from "Art Forms of Nature" (1899-1904) and by Karl Blossfeldt's photographs from the 1920s and 1930s. The idea for my project "Botanical Studies" was born, in which the respective motifs were deliberately implemented in a minimalist way.

Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Silk Baryta X (310g/sqm). The paper with a silky smooth surface and subtle structure offers a large color range with deep black and a unique brilliance. A museum board with a precise bevel cut, which aligns with the photo, is used as a matting. The frames are made of black oak wood with a 20mm thick profile, giving the images a modern elegance and sophistication. To provide special depth and brilliance in my prints while reducing reflections, I have chosen high-quality anti-reflective museum glass.
