A closer look at the forms of the marine world. Maritime Studies continues the exploration of natural forms that began with Botanical Studies and later developed into The B-Sides. Through minimalist black and white photography, I turn my attention to the intricate structures, textures and sculptural qualities of marine subjects.
 

The project shares its roots with Botanical Studies: a fascination with the illustrations in Ernst Haeckel’s Kunstformen der Natur and the educational charts I remember from my school days in the mid-1980s. That way of looking at nature continues to influence my work, drawing my attention to details that can easily pass unnoticed.
 

After sharing an initial glimpse in January of 2024, I continued gathering objects for the series. Now, with a collection ready to explore, I’m returning to those first photographic studies and developing the project further.
